The Canadian Hearing Institute team is fully committed to mitigating the hearing loss of Leamington residents. We are dedicated to bringing back the everyday sounds to your life, enabling you to hear more precisely.

Various Forms of Hearing Loss

Conductive Hearing Loss: Conductive hearing loss is the diminished ability of sound to be conducted from the outer ear canal to the eardrum and the tiny bones (ossicles) of the middle ear, where sound is transmitted. When this hearing loss occurs, you may experience a general reduction in sound level, or an inability to hear quieter sounds. Frequently surgery or medication can correct a conductive hearing loss condition.

Sensorineural Hearing Loss: Sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) results from damage to the inner ear (cochlea) itself, or damage to the auditory nerve from the inner ear to the brain. Medical intervention cannot normally correct SNHL hearing loss which is the most common form of permanent hearing loss experienced by Leamington residents.

Often with SNHL you may have difficulty hearing in noisy areas or when there is background noise. When speech is loud enough to hear, it may still seem mumbled or slurred.

Mixed Hearing Loss: Mixed hearing loss is a condition where a combination of both conductive hearing loss and sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) occur simultaneously. This means there may be damage to both the outer or middle ear, and the inner ear (cochlea) or auditory nerve, at the same time.

Are you asking people to repeat things more often than you’d like? Does the TV or radio always seem to need more volume? Are you concerned your hearing may have changed?

It happens so gradually that hearing loss frequently goes unnoticed, leaving many of our Leamington clients suffering from hearing loss in denial. They often blame something else when they stop interacting with family and friends, and withdraw from social situations. Often it is because they can’t understand what others are saying.
